| Hal & Sally Kinne became involved in the world of dogs & poodles in 1950. They have been members of the Texas Kennel Club since 1987. They are also members of the Poodle Club of America and the Lone Star Poodle Club. They have recently retired from conformation and are no longer breeding poodles.
Hal & Sally were the founding members of the Sandia Dog Obedience Club (Albuquerque) in 1951. Their Poodle Halkin Chocolate Clown, UD, was the first dog in New Mexico to earn a Companion Dog (CD) degree in 1951. She was then home trained for the CDX & Utility degree. Halkin Chocolate Clown UD earned her U.D. degree in 1954. Meanwhile, a second standard poodle was purchased in 1951. This poodle finished her Championship and earned a CDX degree. We handled her ourselves to 2 group firsts in 1955. In New Mexico, Hal was class instructor for 3 years and Sally handled the dogs. We bought our first miniature poodle in 1954.
An overseas assignment in Germany gave us an opportunity to join Deucher Pudel Klub in Germany for four years. Our first miniature Champion was whelped in Germany. She was shipped home and finished by Wendall Sammet in 1963 (Ch. Halkin Erica). We came home and Maxine Beam finished her mother, Ch. Halkin Carla at 6 1/2 years of age (Carla - not Maxine!)
We always took our poodles, even when we were stationed in Germany, Hawaii, and Iran. In California, we belonged to the Del Monte Kennel club.
After Hal retired from the Army, we moved to Richardson, TX and started with new bloodlines with the top producing bitch, Ch. Halkin Penchant Phancie (half sister of the all time top producing miniature poodle, Ch. Penchant Paladin). She was Best Miniature Puppy at The Poodle Club of America Florida Regional Show in 1981. She was a Top Producer, and her son, Ch. Halkin Major, CD was Winners dog in 1986 and Best Puppy in Show at the Poodle Club of America National Specialty.
All of our poodles have always been family pets, having free run of the house even though they sleep in crates. We share our home now with three generations: Ch. Halkin Ruffles & Flourishes, Ch. Halkin Texicali, and Ch. Halkin Up N Adam.
Halkin has breed 22 Champions who in turn have produced 31 Champions in the second generation.
