History of the Dallas Chihuahua Club

The Dallas Chihuahua Club had its beginning in Dallas, Texas on March 5, 1949 with 53 members. The purpose of the club was and still is to promote the breeding of Chihuahuas and to adopt the standard of the Chihuahua Club of America as the only recognized and unvarying standard by which Chihuahuas are to be judged and by giving prized and supporting shows taking other steps to do.

To date, there are 31 members and most live in Texas, but there are also members in other states and countries. Current lifetime members are Verda Dingman, Dick Dickerson, Howard and Mary Sue Gill, and Mr. Hideo Ito, of Japan. Other honorary and/or charter members of the club were Mrs. Mike Attas, Dessa and Otto Kraft, Theron and Irene Smith.

The club held its first "B" Match on May 29, 1949, and pictured below is a photo of that event, which was held. The club held its first specialty show on Nov. 5, 1950 and annual specialty shows until 1976. Since then, there have been 2 shows a year. The club has hosted two national shows, one in 1979 when DCC was the first club to host a national specialty as well as hosting the Texas Chihuahua Club the same weekend, and another one in 1986.
